Padinefer¹

Blue faience ushabti with detailed features, tripartite wig in dark blue, Osirian beard, arms crossed over the chest with agricultural implements in the hands, a hoe in the left hand and a mattock and seed bag cord on the back. Dorsal pillar and plinth. Hieroglyphic inscription in 5 rows around the body.

Statuette acquired at auction²

The statuettes of Padinefer have been known since the early 20th century. The different blue tones of the faience glaze are striking, characteristic of many groups of ushabtis from the Ptolemaic period. The British Museum records three statuettes of Padinefer with inventory numbers EA35225, EA36436, and EA53979. The first two statuettes entered the British Museum collection in 1902, the first of them originating from the collection of an English military officer, Major William Joseph Myers. W.J. Myers assembled an excellent catalogue of Egyptian antiquities, most of them singular pieces of blue faience. The bulk of the collection was acquired in Egypt in the last decade of the 19th century. Today, most of the pieces from the Myers collection form part of the catalogue of Eton College, in Berkshire, England.
